We are a very low income family from KY. We bought our 1st & only very old home (built aprox late 1800's or early 1900's, it shown on a city map 1922, from a local land conveyer office.) from a family member on a land contract. Of course we had to pay double what they purshased it for. lol, but was blessed to be able to even do that!
Anyways we finally paid it off abt a yr ago, however it is sooooooooo run down. It needs floors, windows replaced, as well as ceilings & the electrical wiring has caught fire, a few times. We have to contantly pray for God to not let it burn dwn or even worse with us in it. It has MOLD in it very badly. it has no source of heat other than Kerosene heaters that has carbon monoxide levels over 400 sometimes, we keep severve headaches , & chronic respitory ailments from that & the mold. old carpet that isn't fit to have layed dwn. etc... the main supports are dry rotted under house its self. unknown since it is soooooo old abt abfectos (spelling off) in home. it is located in a very run dwn part of city, with neighbors that has junk lawn mower parts etc, everywhere, that everytime it floods washes over into our yard & garden etc. City refuses to do anything abt it., so our home is worth even less!!!
My husband crushed his rt hand in an Accident a few yrs ago at a factory nearby. (no we didn't get a big settlement, just a hand that is permanently injured. We have a 21 yr old mentally disabled son, that will always need to live with us. I have been going to school to get GED etc to try to obtain decent employment wage, but most is at or below min wage here. We don't have good credit due to the DR bills etc from husbands injuries, & due to no kind of medical or dental insurance .
Is there any grants etc that could help us to fix our home, but it would probley be cheaper to buy another one with less fixin up. we want to live in the next county in a rural area. (BATH COUNTY KY). Is it possible to use our property as dwn pymt, or better yet trade for another property there ? Thier taxes are alot less over there ! Thats where we are originally from. The county We live in is a sm town that is rapidly out growing its self, therefore new schools built ie...higher property taxes etc,....(MT.STERLING KY)
